The first time I heard this beautiful song was while I was watching ’13 Reasons Why’ on Netflix.
I remember in the scene this song was playing someone referred to it as “that one slow song” or something like that. I immediately connected with this song because I had just gone through a break-up and the lyrics of this song just resonated so much with how I was feeling then.
But even beyond that there is particularly one line that just stuck with me. It really perfectly captures the essence of every love relationship as nothing lasts forever and even love inexorably fades with the unforgiving constant of time.
” I had all and then most of you, some and now none of you.
Take me back to the night we met… “
And it’s true. If you’ve ever been in a relationship where every day you feel like you lose the other person a bit more. When it turns into a shell of what it used to be and you wish to go back to the beginning, when you couldn’t imagine the world without this person. And now seems so far away that you’d save yourself from the pain you now feel if you could just go back to the night you met… and just know how it’d all end.
If you could just go back to that night, and save yourself.
